Living Small From Wall To Wall? How To Make More Room

Living in a small home is frustrating for numerous reasons, but one of the most annoying aspects is that we can only make small changes in order to make the space more liveable, or is this actually true? When we live in a small home, it’s important that we feel like we’re home, rather than feeling hemmed in. As such, we got to find ways to make space; how can we do this?

Get organised

Organisation is essential, especially if you have loads of items. When you live in a space that’s tiny, the one real way of making the space more liveable is to declutter as often as possible. This isn’t just a way for you to make more space, but it’s common sense as well. We can easily hang on to items that aren’t serving any purpose anymore. It’s a very good habit to get into, not just when spring comes and it’s time to clean up.

Redesign the purpose

If we lived in a space for a certain amount of time, each room begins to serve one single purpose, but if you have more items than you do living space, it might be time to double up on the purpose of each room. For example, if you have a living room that’s just where everybody complicates to watch TV, perhaps this can double up as somewhere you can all eat together. When you don’t have much in the way of room, if you can double up the purposes, or take the opportunity to redesign the space, and make the living room become something else, or a spare room becomes an office, it helps you make clearer definitions of the role of each room in the home.

Be clever with your storage

And when we live in a small space, we can’t always get rid of everything that we want. There are things that are very precious to us, and as such, it’s a good idea to make the most of local self storage. If you are unable to do this, then you’ve got to start thinking about storing items upwards. When we think about how we live in a property, we tend to store things widthways instead of lengthways. When you have limited space, storing things upwards is your best shot at avoiding that sensation of feeling hemmed in. In addition to this, using every available nook and cranny as a way to store items can mean you are maximising the space.

It’s far more common now, we have to live in more cramped spaces, and we don’t have the money to upsize, but that doesn’t mean we should have to live somewhere that makes us unhappy and fighting for living space. But in addition to these little tricks, perhaps we have to learn how to change our attitude towards these spaces. Unfortunately, when we live in a small home, this can mean that we feel like everything is getting on top of us. But by decluttering, as well as changing our own mindset, we don’t have to feel like we’re living small.
